Paddle safe out there

Quick reminders and data sources behind this app.

πŸ›‘οΈ Before you go

β€’Wear a leash. It keeps you and your board together.
β€’Wear a PFD (personal flotation device). This is required on Auckland waters when off the beach.
β€’Tell someone your plan: where, who, and when you'll be back.
β€’Check wind forecasts as offshore wind can push you out fast.
β€’Don't paddle alone if you're a beginner.

πŸ’§ Water quality

Auckland's Safeswim programme monitors beach water quality and issues alerts after heavy rainfall or sewage overflows. If a beach is flagged unsafe, avoid entering the water β€” even briefly.

If in doubt, sit it out. Water quality can change within hours.
